Hafdis Huld is quirky. Hafdis is seductive. Hafdis is gorgeous and Icelandic.  Hafdis is perfect pop with a dark twist.  Hafdis is sparkly, irrepressible and huge fun.   Hafdis is a true one-off.

THE RECORD

Hafdis explains, "I started writing all my music as stories and poems because I really don’t want to write about “How much I love you and you love me and I feel your breathing and your touch”.  That seriously isn’t all people think about – not even girls.”

Hafdis’s debut solo album, ‘Dirty Paper Cup’ (release October 06) was written with song-writing collaborators including Chris Corner from Sneaker Pimps, Pascal Gabriel, producer Jim ‘Arctic Monkeys’ Abbiss and others. These disparate elements were pulled into sharp focus by the twin talents of producers Neill MacColl and Boo Hewerdine, who teased Hafdis’s imaginative take on life into a hook-filled seductive pop album of unique charm and wit.

BEFORE THE RECORD

Icelandic-born Hafdis started singing with iconic nine-piece collective Gus Gus when she was just 15 years old. She spent the rest of her teens touring the world – “When we weren’t performing, I just sat in the bus and read my book so I didn’t really get to see much.  I probably wasted the experience”.  On leaving the band, she collaborated with FC Kahuna, co-writing their singles ‘Hayling’ and ‘Machine Says Yes’. Elsewhere she worked on projects with dance producers Ewan Pearson and Tom Middleton.

In between times she’s made two feature films: “I always seem to play the troubled teenager, probably because I’m a midget’” she says in her treacle-thick accent.
